The death of Jesus:
The death of Jesus was preceded by extra ordinary happening.
From the sixth hour upto the ninth hour, sun stopped shining and darkness covered the whole country.
The darkness symbolized that evil was at its climax.
Another extra-ordinary is that the curtain hanging in the temple was torn into two.
In the temple there was a curtain separating the holy of holies from the rest of the temple. It was believed that God dwelt in the Holy of holies and only the priests were allowed to enter there only once a year.
Just before Jesus died, he cried in a loud voice, “Father in to thy hands I commit my spirit”. (Lk 23:46).
Having said this prayer Jesus breathed his last. And with those words he died.
This showed that Jesus surrendered himself totally to the will of God.
