a)To magnesium oxide (MgO) add excess hydrochloric acid (HCl) or sulphuric acid (#H_2SO_4#).Add sodium hydroxide (NaOH) solution
or potassium hydroxide (KOH) solution to the mixture. Filter and dry the residue.
