Answer Text:
Factors that bring about unemployment
-International policies of globalization that have affected the agriculture sector which has been the greatest employer in Kenya.
-Retrenchment of workers in the civil service and private sectors.
-Increase in crime that has aggravated insecurity in the
country. This has discouraged local and international investors.
-The available job opportunities are too limited to absorb the great number of school leavers and college graduates.
-Most young school leavers despise “blue collar” jobs. These are manual jobs like those done by labourers.
-They look for “white collar” jobs that can give them status. They do not accept to be employed for example, in farms and the Jua Kali sector.
-Bribery and corruption. This is a social evil that denies jobs to those who are qualified in preference for the unqualified who might have given bribes.
-Lack of skills and capital to start self-employment.
-Bad governance and poor economic policies by the government.
