Answer Text:
When parents and children understand and trust each other, they’ll all be better able to work together to support one
another’s wellbeing and development. This can be well achieved through effective communication. Lack of proper communication has caused misunderstanding among the Kaelos tearing the family apart.

Ole Kaelo fails to share with his family the source of his wealth. This is evident when Mama Milanoi only comes to realize how he acquired the house and the shop later when Oloisudori demanded Resian for marriage. If Kaelo would have shared with his family the deals he has with Oloisudori the entire family would have understood the implications of his unannounced visit to the Kaelos.

Resian values education so much and dreams of pursuing Veterinary Science at Egerton University. She is not in a position to share this with her
father since they have a strained relationship. Even her sister Taiyo who is loved by her father cannot help her persuade her father over the same. This brings a serious misunderstanding when her father calls her to talk about her future which is marriage but in the contrary she thought either Taiyo or her mother had told him about her desire of getting University education.

In Nasila, Resian and Taiyo suffer sexual exploitation since they are not circumcised. They are mocked and chided by strangers. When they are accosted by a man for the first time, they fear telling their parents, they choose to keep it to themselves. This is because they believed that they will not be understood well by their parents. This is definitely because they do not share same opinion with their parents.

Resian and Taiyo do not share same value and opinion. They do not regard the Nasila culture. Resian does not see the point of submitting to oppression by men though Mama Milanoi being a conservative conformist, selfishly guards her marriage at the expense of her daughter’s happiness. She remains subservient and fails to protect Taiyo and Resian. She is, however, torn between either losing her daughters’ faith and love or going against the Nasila traditions. She deceives Taiyo and aids three women to abduct her and whisk her away to Esoit village where she is forcibly and brutally circumcised. She hopes to have her married to Oloisudori so that they keep the business contracts and maintain the enviable living standards in Nasila. This is why the two fail to understand their mother and swear that they will never be a bad mother like her.

Ole Kaelo do not share same opinion and value for wealth with his daughters. Ole Kaelo chooses wealth over Resian’s happiness. He warms up to the idea of having Resian kidnapped and anesthetized. He receives money and other gifts in exchange of her daughter. In the other hand Resian and Taiyo plans later to return the gifts since they say that they are not on sale and cannot be bought by wealth. This results to a clash
between Ole Kaelo and Resain making her escape from home.

It is indeed true that a family that fails to share opinion and value normally end up having misunderstanding.
