Negative impacts on deforestation.
(i) There is loss of locally available products such as fruits, honey and herbs.
(ii) There is a threat to long-term supply of wood products.
(iii) Water catchment areas which are protected by forests
are destroyed and no longer attract rain. Hence rivers dry up.
(iv) Soil erosion caused by rapid run-off of rainwater accelerates deforestation.
(v) Increase in global carbon dioxide build-up in the atmosphere causes global warming and green-house effects.
(vi) There is the extinction of certain species of plants and animals.
(vii) There is destruction of natural beauty.
(viii) There is desertification.
