- The main organs transplanted are kidneys, the heart and the eyes.
- The organs transplanted can be from a human donor who is living, a recently deceased donor or from an animal.
- The heart transplant is carried out when other treatments are inadequate or inappropriate for
cardiovascular diseases. The first heart surgery was carried out in 1967 in South Africa by Dr. Christian Bernard.
- Attempts to develop artificial hearts have not been successful.
- Kidney transplants were first performed in the United Kingdom

- The most compatible kidney for transplant is that of a close relative as it reduces the risks of injection.

- Some object transplanting of an
organ from a human being in order to save life.

- They are also against the transplanting of an organ from an animal to a human being as
this is undermining human dignity.
- They believe that life is sacred and it is only God who has power over it.
- Some Christians object the transplanting of organs from animals to human beings as this sometimes leads to transferring diseases from one species to another.
- Christians who support organ transplant are The Pro-Life groups who agree that one should do everything possible to save life.
- In the book of Genesis, we are given an example of organ transplant performed by God during the story of creation.
- God removed a rib from Adam’s body and used it to create Eve (Genesis 2:21-23).
- In modern science and technology, transplanting of organs is part of human beings continuing with the creation work of God.
- Both donating an organ and transplant it into another human being is an expression of love and concern for those suffering as taught by Jesus Christ.
