The annunciation of the birth of John the Baptist- It is important to note that the birth of Jesus was preceded by the birth of John the Baptist.-The parents of John the Baptist were Zachariah and Elizabeth. They were both righteous before the lord although Elizabeth was a barren. Zechariah was a priest.-One day as Zechariah was burning incense in the temple, Angel Gabriel appeared to him.-It was during the reign of king Herod. -The Angel stood by the right side of the altar.-Zechariah was filled with fear. -The Angel told him not to be afraid because his prayers had been answered.-The Angel told him that his wife would bear him a son and the son would be called John. John means God has remembered-The Angel also gave Zechariah the qualities and work of John.-Zechariah did not believe the Angel’s message.-Because of disbelief, the angel told Zechariah that he will remain dumb until the birth of the child.
