-There was massive loss of lives. It is estimated that 13 million people died during the war.
-There was outbreak of diseases like the Spanish influenza which claimed many lives.
-It led to starvation because most productive people went to war and land and crops were destroyed.
-Property of a lot of value was destroyed like cities, bridges, factories and roads.
-Economic activities were disrupted leading to economic depression.
-A large sum of money was spent in the war thus weakening the economies of European countries.
-Many people were displaced leading to refugee problems.
