- A low area between two grounds.
- Indicated by U-shaped contours pointing towards a higher ground.

- Land which is projected from higher to lower ground.

- Piece of raised land Jutting into a valley or a projection of land from a mountain or ridge
- Indicated by U-shaped contours bulging towards lower ground.

- Spurs can either be interlocking or truncated.
Interlocking Spurs
- Spurs which appear as if to fit together.
- They project into a young valley, where the river tends to follow a winding course round obstacle.
- On maps, they are show by contours bulging from the high area towards the low areas into the valley.

Truncated Spurs
- Spurs in glaciated highlands tips have been eroded and straightened.
- As glaciers move down a V- shaped valley, they gradually trim of the tipsof interlocking spur forming truncated spur.
