-It could not be applied where centralized government was absent.
-Language was a problem leading to the need for interpreter.
-Education of chiefs was necessary but took long time and needed patience and fulfilled knowledge which many Britons lacked.
-The chiefs appointed in stateless societies lacked natural basis and therefore suspicion and lack of confidence resulted.
-Different administration had different views on the degree of indirect rule to be applied making it difficult to draw a difference between advisory and supervisory role of colonial powers.
